Leagues-Teach your friends the meaning of defeat

FAQ

1. What is Leagues?
Leagues is a social community centered around real world games. The app allows users to find, play and track in-person games.

2. Can I play ‘Leagues’ by myself?
Nope!  To play a game, you must first find an opponent. Leagues requires two people to be in the same place at the same time in order to play a game.

3. How do I play a game?
Once you are with your opponent, go to the ‘Play’ tab on the menu bar, select the same league and then press the ‘Play Pool’ button (assuming you are playing pool). This will take you to the game play screen.  To begin the game, shake your device, or tap the graphic at the same time as your opponent.  This virtual handshake establishes a connection between the devices.

After confirming your opponent, put your device away and play your game!  When the game is over, record the result, either ‘I won’ or ‘I lost.’  The app confirms that the results match before updating the ratings and records.

4. How do I find an opponent?
From the ‘Play’ or ‘Friends’ tab select online players (or friends) and find a player nearby. Once in their profile you can challenge them to a game.  If you are with your opponent, select ‘Play Now’ and an alert will be sent to your opponent as you are taken to the game play screen (see question 3 on how to connect devices).  If you are not with your opponent, choose ‘Play Later’ and a message will be sent to your opponent so you can schedule a game for the future.

5. Can I play with a Teammate?
To play with a teammate, follow the instructions from question 3 to begin a game.  Once you have confirmed your opponent, tap ‘Add Teammate’ below your picture.  The ‘Shake or Tap with Teammate’ button will appear. Make sure your teammate is on the ‘Play Game’ screen, just as if they were going to start a game with an opponent.  After you and your teammate shake or tap at the same time, you will be connected as teammates.

6. How can I find a place to play?
Leagues has the most comprehensive nationwide list of Pool, Darts, Ping Pong, Beer Pong and Foosball venues.  If you are looking for a place to play, go to the ‘Check In’ tab on the menu bar and Leagues will show you everywhere you can play around you in either map or list view.

7. What is a Registered Venue?
Registered venues are places that we know have the game you are looking to play and are represented by a green pin on the map.  If you are at a place that is not registered, it will appear in ‘Other Venues’ and is represented by a red pin on the map.

8. Can I add a venue that has a game, but is not a registered venue?
When you check in to an unregistered venue it will ask you if you can play the game you are looking for.  If you answer ‘yes’ it will add this location to our database of registered venues.

You can also email us with any corrections or updates at suggestions@theleaguesapp.com or directly through the app by clicking ‘What to Play Here’ from the venue screen.

9. What is my rating?
Going beyond simply documenting wins and losses, the Leagues rating system is powered by an algorithm that weighs ongoing dominance against quality of opponents (like the BCS, but boozier).

10. What are groups?
Use Groups to see how you measure up against your College Buddies’, ‘Co-Workers’ or any other social circle.   Each group creates a private ‘ladder’ which assigns a ranking based on your performance within the group.  Every time you play a fellow group member, your ranking is adjusted.

11.  Can I suggest a game that is not included in the app?
Our list of games will continue to grow and we are open to any suggestions.  If you want us to add a game you play please email us at suggestions@theleaguesapp.com.  No game is too crazy; If you play it, we want to know about it!
